Product Description Following on from 'Your Life in Your Hands', this volume contains comprehensive advice for fighting breast and prostate cancer as well as healthy living and eating for everyone. It covers essential kitchen equipment to weekly menu plans.
Amazon.co.uk Review Bestselling author of the ground-breaking book Your Life in Your Hands now brings us The Plant Programme, a collection of recipes to fight breast and prostate cancer. Plant developed breast cancer in 1987 and as a scientist was frustrated by the lack of answers on why cancer develops--and what we can do to cure and prevent it. She discovered one fact that she couldn't ignore--that 1 in 10 women in the UK will develop breast cancer whereas the incidence in China is just 1 in 10 thousand. From this she went on to study the links between lifestyle and diet and made some controversial recommendations--most notably to avoid all kinds of dairy produce and adopt a largely vegan diet. The Plant Programme is a collection of recipes and dietary advice that follows this approach. To start off, the principles behind the diet are re-explained and a shopping list of ingredients is given. The main body of the book contains recipes for everyday eating --including snacks and meals that will suit kids and the rest of the family. Without exception, these are simple, quite quick to prepare and though there are no illustrations, highly appetising. Those cautious about the absence of dairy needn't feel apprehensive--you really don't notice it. Mediterranean and Asian dishes feature prominently, with recipes such as Couscous with Rocket, Chicken and Pine Nuts, Sweet Potato and Coconut Soup or Stir-Fried Cauliflower, Zucchini and Fennel. Even the more virtuous ingredients such as tofu and lentils are made delicious through liberal use of fresh herbs and spices. And the recipes for smoothies, cookies and desserts (such as Orange and Almond Cake) will have the rest of the family keen to tuck in with you. Readers of Your Life in Your Hands will know exactly how exciting Jane Plant's research has been to anyone concerned about cancer. Here though, she and Gill Tidey have scored a major success in translating this scientific knowledge into a collection of easy recipes that can be enjoyed on a daily basis by the whole family. This is a positive and much needed book that will empower all those affected by this cruel disease.--Rachel O'Connor

The Plant Programme March 4, 2010 CA Sayarer (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was not the book that I thought I was buying. I thought I was ordering The Plant Programme by Jane Plant, not Eating for Better Health. Nevertheless I have kept the book. I have great confidence in Jane Plant's work - the science makes so much sense. This book is more for the general reader than for those with specific interests. I have already read Osteoporosis and Prostate Cancer and this book repeated much of that information. The Plant Programme book, which I thought I was ordering, is just recipes, I think, not the general information about good health.
Informative, easy to follow recipes September 9, 2009 N. Sharil (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I placed an order for both this book and her first "Your Life in Your Hands" after receiving an email with an excerpt from Jane's book on the effect of dairy on your body. This books makes a great supplement for her first book and it gives in great details recipes that may be helpful in the transition to a dairy free diet. I find her chart (acid/alkaline food) particularly helpful. She also provides information on other common ailments/diseases and the type of food that may help to alleviate such problems. Her recipes are easy to follow and I love the way she separate the meals in different categories. A great buy and one that will have a special place in the kitchen!
Just what I wanted August 17, 2009 A. Quieti (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is everything I wanted - the menu ideas and the 'ratings' for each receipe is so helpful for those fighting cancer. To help towards prevention also! Excellent
Data obfuscation August 4, 2009 P. Hardy 10 out of 18 found this review helpful
Can I point out that Plant compares the INCIDENCE (no. of cases per year) of breast cancer in China with the LIFETIME RISK in the UK, which yields the spurious 1000-fold difference. According to Cancer Research UK figures the difference in incidence between the two countries is about 4x, which is somewhat different.
Also as the incidence increases with age and female life expectancy of the UK has an extra 10 years over China this will skew those figures too.
If this kind of misleading data is typical of the book overall, people should be wary about its other claims.

This is an excellent reference to recipes for the Plant Programme and the diet principles behind it. I find it quite indispensable.
