Product Description
Charles Darwin's masterpiece, 'On the Origin of Species', shook society to its core on publication in 1859. This title takes on creationists, including followers of 'Intelligent Design' and all those who question the fact of evolution through natural selection.

1 out of 5 stars No evidence actually provided   September 1, 2010

Despite having in its title ''the evidence for evolution'', none is actually presented in the book. Firstly Dawkins throughout his work admits evolution is not directly observable. The theory of evolution rests on vast ages of unobservable time - millions or billions of years. Nobody though has ever observed these periods when evolution supposedly happened during them, and this is the major flaw in the theory of evolution because it means the theory relies entirely on something non-observable, non-repeatable and non-testable.

The basis of evolution therefore falls outside of the scientific method, as even the prominent evolutionist Theodosius Dobzhansky admitted ''evolutionary happenings are unique, unrepeatable, and irreversible...the applicability of the experimental method to the study of such unique historical processes is severely restricted''.

What does Dawkins work therefore rest on? It relies entirely on mere interpretation or inference. Is this evidence? No, it's just a single man's interpretation.

I read this book since it was proclaimed by many that it contained evidence for evolution, that being evidence which meant evolution is absolute fact and that all alternatives are wrong.

Obviously this was not the case, and Dawkins book has actually just reinforced my belief in creationism.

I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to assemble a body of evidence to enable them to refute the nonsense
put about by creationists. There is fact after fact, presented in an eminently readable style (as always) which builds into an irrefutable case for the truth of evolution.

I'll keep this brief. This book is a terrific read. I read The God Delusion a couple of years ago, and would describe that book as life changing. TGSOE gives a fascinating insight into evolution. Well recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing book...competes for the title as the greatest book on Earth   August 23, 2010

This is a book which does nothing but amazes you at the wonders of our world! I had a very hard time putting this book away every night for the one week it took me to read through it...

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing! Not much evidence, just ranting at the creation mob.   August 9, 2010

For someone who views evolution as a fool's gold, I took this book on merit to see if Dawkins had a valid case for evolution and to see the evidence. For a book of over 400 pages I am very disappointed with the content. Dawkins just doesn't have the courage to write purely on the scientific and leave god or religion out of the equation. Chapters 1,2 and 3 are just a rant aimed at the creationists mob. Upto now no evidence presented. In another chapter Dawkins write's a story and then admits it's just the work of fiction to get over a point! I would rather just see the evidence Richard. Another chapter we are introduced to a monty python song. I don't know what Dawkins is trying to achieve here but it just goes peared shaped. Maybe he misses his innocent student days thinking about what he might do when he gets bigger and grows up. As for evidence for evolution? There's not much here to blow one's trumpet! A computer program written by Dawkins? Someone's having a laugh. The photographs are very nice, but it's all rather just an opinion of what might of happened. A lot of the material in this book has already been used in the god delusion. I would of loved to see more evidence to justify the belief in evolution. Quoting thats it's natural selection all the time just doesn't do it! If you are pro evolution then this book will leave you asking for a refund because it doesn't offer anthing new. If you are a creationist then this book will reinforce your view that Dawkins is a religionist. For anyone else without a creationists agenda, this book will not change your view about the beginning of life on earth. A very disappointing book and Dawkins should be ashamed of producing such rubbish. For readers of science, avoid at all costs!
