I got this as a gift for my son in law, as he and my daughter are mad about hill walking. He was thrilled to get them, they are a good size for a pocket and each book contains a good number of walks in one area of the lake district. Beautifully and clearly illustrated, I think they will find these books invaluable over the years.

As you will see I award the books 5 stars because they are truly wonderful and at a bargain price.
A word of caution however. The guides are not now printed in Kendal (as the original 50th anniversary set, published by Frances Lincoln, were). To many this will not matter but to me as something of a purist (and perhaps eccentric) it is a disappointment to find the work, as good as it seems, is now done in Thailand.
It was a nice touch to have them printed within the Lake District and particularly in Kendal. Frances Lincoln gained a lot of kudos for doing so in the first place.

I chose this book set as a keepsake with prize money I won at the end of 6th form. The individual books are fascinating to look through and very detailed, the illustrations are excellent and they are well bound.

This was a Christmas present for my husband. He was a keen cyclist in the north of England in his earlier days and used these guides a lot. He didn't have any copies left so when I saw this edition I knew I had found something he would really like. He does like them and they are being used though now in a nostalgic way and just to jog his memory.
