Generally pretty good. March 6, 2010 C. Silvester (London, UK) I ended up really liking this book although had my doubts at one point. Liz Gilbert wrote from the heart and you could really relate and understand how she was feeling. I know I felt real empathy towards her and the failure she felt after her divorce and her inner struggle to find herself and peace. Generally I really liked the story but could definitely have done with less detail about her time in India. I did get slightly bored around that time but the rest of the book made up for it. The book basically comes across as she fell in love with herself and life all over again before eventually finding romantic love. It is an uplifting and inspiring story and as I said my only moan would be some of the details on life in the Ashram were a bit repetitive. I would recommend this book to any woman.
Nice little bit about Italy February 24, 2010 Gina R (France) But the rest - oh dear. I was half asleep through India, I'm afraid. And found the I-I-I me-me-me approach tedious. Average woman, living average life goes travelling and navel gazes. If she had turned the attention away from her wallowing self and travelled to, say, Iraq, or Somalia, or Afghanistan, rolled up her sleeves and got her hands dirty, not by scrubbing floors, but by helping others 'find themselves' and rebuild their lives - now THAT would be a book worth reading!
Eat Pray Love February 22, 2010 J. Doyle (Aberdeenshire Scotland) This was my choice for my book group - 6 great women all in our 30's. Although I am not quite finished it yet, I am really enjoying it. I know the others are too. Great true tale by a Elizabeth Gilbert and her search for peace and happiness. Like every good book, no doubt I will miss it when I'm finished. I already have a queue of people who want to read it after me!!
shame about the end February 21, 2010 Kay (Cyprus) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great book to start. Very positive. Feel let down at the end when all the way through the book the author talks about finding her independence confidence etc then meets man in seconds and falls for him so suddenly. Does she find her soul mate or start her nightmare all over again. Disappointing. Bottomless!!!!!
Loved it! February 21, 2010 Leah Armstrong (Genoa, Italy) I laughed, I cried. A great read about a woman trying to make sense of her life's choices and what to do next about it all.
A mid-life crisis with lots of laughs. Gilbert endears you to her plight for life to just make some damned sense.
